3D-Printed Bioactive Ceramic Scaffolds for Bone Regeneration
This presentation addresses the development and application of 3D-printed bioactive ceramic scaffolds for bone regeneration. It begins with an overview of biomaterials and tissue engineering, emphasizing the fundamental requirements for scaffolds that support osseointegration and tissue repair. The discussion then focuses on bioceramics, particularly calcium phosphates (CaPs) and bioactive glasses (BGs), highlighting their composition, bioactivity, and significance in bone tissue engineering. The final section examines the design and fabrication of ceramic scaffolds through additive manufacturing, underscoring the potential of 3D printing to precisely control architecture, porosity, and mechanical performance to optimize regenerative outcomes. Selected studies currently being conducted in the Bioceramics Laboratory will also be presented.
